A bit about The Tooting Motorcycle MOT Testing Centre
Founded in Tooting in 1880 by Mr Carpenter, Carpenters Removals was originally based in Longley Road. In 1901, Mr Carpenter purchased two plots of land in Bickersteth Road, and then in 1907 the plot at Brightwell Crescent, where we reside to this day.
The Brightwell Crescent site was initially used as an auction room and then as a repair area for Mr Carpenter's first lorries. During the early 60's my grandfather and his two sons, Peter and Derek, my father and uncle rented this yard from him and started a haulage and commercial vehicle repair business.
In recent years we have used it for motor vehicle repairs and storage, but have known for sometime that it was not being used to its full potential. During the end of 2012, the premises have been redecorated and a Class 1-2 test bay installed for the testing of motorcycles and sidecar combinations.
